Scooter English

This great blog entry has been brought to my attention of late... Seems Jonathan Biddle is an Englishman living in Taiwan. This particular entry caught my eye for obvious reasons. In short the marvel that is "Scooter English" also seen as "spare tyre cover english" and "side of japanese SUV English"

Check out the blog HERE for more gems along the lines of "We reach for the sky, neither does civilisation... Sniper" and "Duck... Be pure... to resist drugs and violence"

BMW Maxi Scooters

Well it looks like we may be seeing a range of Maxi scooters from BMW. It has been a while since we have seen anything from BMW in the Scooter market. A sneaky look from Spanish mag "Solo Moto" shows some Quad bike sourced Rotax V-Twins that are supposedly being reworked to power a new range of Maxis.

With the engines ranging from 500 to 800 cc's and power figures from the Euro standard 34hp up to a GP800 targeting 75hp it will be interesting to see what they come to market with. Unfortunately with a projected release date of 2010 they may have to rework those power figures to stay at the pointy end of the Maxi market. We can only hope they will avoid roofs and seatbelts with the new range.

Sydney Commuter Battle
Australia's Sydney Morning Herald have just run an article on it's front page that proves (as always)that we (scooter riders that is) are right. In a 15km trip into the city during peak hour they had a group of reporters try various forms of transport to see who could get there fastest. From a selection of bus, car, train, bicycle, scooter and... runner. The Scooter beat out the cyclist by a small fraction and I am assuming the scooter rider was well within the "usual" road rules. Chinglish?
Ok I have to thank Stu for bringing this one to our attention. While researching some scooter info he stumbled across a Baotian's Chinese site (English Version) with some info as to how to get the best economy possible and also some info regarding scooter maintenance. This appears to be an actual attempt at English... and it is pretty hysterical... Enjoy this quote... with Stu's comments (in Italics)

Imagine a first time rider understanding this section.

----> 3. Shift grasp the meaning of time, timely shift. Motorcycle start, and if the traffic flow smooth, must quickly followed by the low-income stall-stall. Do not use low-speed stall wallop or travelling long. When the engine power is inadequate, the gradual lowering of the speed (such as uphill), the original stall unsuited continue to be used, we should promptly dropped a low stall, asking not to make the engine too hard. will not use the clutch half and opened the throttle linkage methods to improve speed.

I think we have all suffered the "low income stall-stall" but not to sure about "Shift grasp the meaning of time"?

Thanks again Stu... send me the link if you happen to rediscover it. Any other readers who find interesting or amusing scooter related hijinx be sure and send us a note at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
