Founded by Philip McCaleb in 1989 The company began as a restorer and reseller of vintage Vespa and Lambretta scooters. Based out of his garage in Chicago, Some of Philip McCaleb’s earliest customers were celebrities and rock stars.

The business then progressed to sourcing and selling hard to find vintage scooter parts via a mail order catalogue; “Scooterworks USA” Was born. McCaleb was a guiding light in America’s still infant scooter culture.

In 2002 Scooterworks acquired some vintage scooter manufacturing equipment and began producing the “Stella”. Hence the Genuine Scooter Company was born.

The success of the Stella scooters was followed in 2006 with the release of a more modern, automatic scooters such as the Buddy, Rattler, Blur, Black Cat and the Roughhouse.
